Homemade sports drink

A sports drink is a great way to refuel during or after exercise.

It’s so cheap and easy to make your own at home, so why not give this a try.

Homemade sports drink
1 cup hot water
Juice of 1/2 lemon
1 tsp. honey (I like Manuka honey)

Large pinch of sea salt (Himalayan rock salt)

Combine all the ingredients together and stir.  Chill in the refrigerator or on the bench to enjoy later.
Drink during or after exercise.

After sweating it out it is good to replace the fluid you have just lost or there is a chance of getting dehydrated. Signs of dehydration include a dry month, dark coloured urine, dizziness or muscle cramps.

Sometimes we need to add a little spark to our water and a homemade sports drink lets you recharge adding carbohydrates and replacing the electrolytes you sweat out during physical activities.

Your body will hold onto the electrolytes, sodium and chloride (salt) from a sports drink as it is more hydrating which stays in your tissues, helping you to retain water.

Salt stimulates thirst so you are likely to drink more.
Honey is a great source of energy boosting carbohydrate and an added sweetness to your drink.
Enjoy during or after any physical activity and give your body some extra fuel.
Move it people:

Walk

Run

Get the family and move together

Kick a ball

Work those arms

Walk the dog

30 minutes a day is all you need, so move your body your way and find your own balance.
